Bangladesh's medical equipment industry is young, with a heavy reliance on imports (85%). The market size was estimated at $442 million in June 2020 and is projected to reach $820 million by 2025, reflecting a steady growth rate of 13%. Instruments, appliances, and diagnostic imaging equipment currently dominate the market in terms of value, and this trend is expected to continue.

Locally manufactured items are primarily disposable/consumables, with an estimated market size of $55-60 million.

Beyond disposables, Bangladesh also produces some orthopedic products, surgical sterilizers, hospital furniture, home care devices, electrocardiograms, and other small instruments, although on a smaller scale. Looking ahead, In-Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) devices and kits are expected to be the fastest-growing segment, followed by cardiac devices, consumables, and diagnostic imaging equipment.

The COVID-19 pandemic even gave a boost to local production of personal protective equipment(PPE) like masks, clothing, respirators, and hospital gowns
